PreView crashes upon various actions (Win7)
Preview 1.14 crashes upon certain commands, seems to be random (selecting elements, mesh inspector, etc)

Hi there, I have troubles using PreView 1p14 on my Windows7-PC. It crashes regularly after some minutes of working, even with simple models (e.g. from the Tutorial). The crashes occur upon various actions performed under Peview so I can`t limit them to certain commands. The same problem appeared already in 1.12. What improved the problem at first sight was storing the PreView model initially after starting a new project. But recently I got another crash using the mesh inspector by selecting UserData or simply by entering the Mesh inspector. I added the crash reports.
Best regards and thanks in advance
David H?ftberger

Hi, just tried to apply a tetrahedral mesh to a simple STL-part using Tetgen with default parameters under 1.15 and had another crash, also tried to save first but no difference

How is the feedback for running the program under Linux (Ubuntu 14)? Does it run more stable than under Windows?
Best regards David

Hi David,

Can you please upload or send me the file? I want to try to replicate the problem on my end.

Thanks,

Steve

Hi Steve, I added the .stl file that produced the error in my case
Maybe I?ve made something wrong; my approach was after importing the file, I switched to 'select faces' in the mesh menu, selected the boundary faces and chose Tetgen in the 'Edit Faces' toolbar. I left the default values and after applying, PreView crashed.
Meanwhile I managed to import the file using Gmsh, but if you have a solution for the above mentioned I'd be glad.
Thanks in advance
David

Hi David,

I see the problem. To create a tet mesh from a surface mesh, you need the TetGen button on the object-level, not the face-level. The face-level is used for remeshing an existing tet mesh.

I was able to reproduce the problem. PreView crashed cause there is no existing tet mesh. I'll see if I can add a more elegant mechanism for informing the user :).

Let me know if that solves your issue.

Best,

Steve

Hi Steve, I was able to perform the volume meshing from a surface mesh (STL file) using the TetGen option in PreView by following the advice you gave me. The result was comparable to the mesh created in gmsh.
Thanks for your support.
Best regards
David
