    Default Import Mesh from Ansys

    Hello,

I was wondering if it is possible to import mesh geometry from ANSYS into PreView. According to the User Manual this should be possible, but when I try to import the files into PreView I get an error message that there are zero nodes. What format should I export from ANSYS in order to successfully import into PreView?

    Thanks,
    Margot

    Hi Margot,

Our Ansys importer currently only supports the NBLOCK and EBLOCK keywords. If one of these aren't there, then that's probably why you are getting the error.

I can look into expanding our Ansys support if you send me a small example file, but please note that we are limited to mesh definitions only. We cannot support CAD geometry.

    Cheers,

I guess I'm not sure how the Ansys text file should be formatted...when I try to import the entire file I get error "no nodal data defined". When I edit the text file and delete all but the actual nodes and NBLOCK command, I get "error reading NBLOCK".

Here is what the beginning of the file looks like:

Do you know why this isn't importing? My actual file was too big to attach here, let me know if you need more info.

    Hi,

It looks like PreView is expecting keywords in all caps. Try changing it to NBLOCK and see if that works (same with the EBLOCK keyword). If that does it, I'll fix it for further versions and make the ansys file parser case insensitive. If not, I'll need to see the actual file or at least a file that allows me to reproduce the issue on my end. If the file is too big to attach, feel free to email it to me directly.

    Cheers,

    Hello again Steve,

I tried changing the keywords to be in all caps, unfortunately that did not work. I'll email you my file directly.

    Best,
    Margot
